We (Lambeth Council officers and SoWN) would very much like to invite SoWN members, particularly older people, women and girls or teenage boys to join us and share their experiences of moving around the area, and contribute to the development of wayfinding interventions that resonate with their needs such as lighting, signage or planting and seating.
On Wednesday 14th May we will be meeting at 8pm at Exit 3 of Waterloo Station (on the Station Concourse opposite the clock by Costa Coffee) for a 90-minute walk that will end back at Exit 3 at 9.30pm. There will be two walking routes, and the groups will be split on the day.
We understand that giving up your evening to walk the streets of Waterloo is a bit of an ask, so we are offering all participants a £25 gift voucher as a thank you for your time!
Lambeth Council has teamed up with 5th Studio to develop a wayfinding strategy that enhances, highlights, and strengthens connections from Waterloo station to key destinations and communities in the surrounding area, and significantly improves the journeys and experience of residents, workers, students, commuters, and visitors.
Community engagement is at the heart of this strategy, and we want to understand the way in which people navigate the area, the challenges they face in getting to their destinations quickly and safely and if areas around the station feel different at night.
To better understand this, we are arranging a nighttime walk of surrounding streets with a range of local participants to understand the key areas and issues that need to be addressed in the delivery of the strategy.
Please let us know if you would like to join by emailing Lou Abbotts at LAbbotts1@lambeth.gov.uk
