London Eye Community Chest 2024 Grants scheme launched by SoWN

We are really delighted to announce the re-launch of the London Eye Community Chest, funded by the London Eye and managed by SoWN.

This grants programme last ran in 2017, so it is wonderful to have this opportunity to re-launch it.

The scheme funds projects that help to build local communities and strengthen community resilience in the Waterloo and South Bank Ward and parts of Southwark’s Bankside Ward immediately alongside the Waterloo Ward. You can see the area covered by going to www.sowneighbours/grants. Projects must principally be for benefit of communities in this area, though people from nearby areas may also take part. Projects working with those in particular need will be especially welcome, but so will projects that more generally encourage a sense of local community and strengthen community resilience.

Who may apply. If you are a charity or formally constituted community group you can apply for a project grant of between £1,000 and £10,000. If you are an informal or non-constituted community group or a private individual with a community project, you can apply for a grant of up to £1,000 as long as you have the agreement of a constituted organisation to work with you (see more details by going to www.sowneighbours/grants ). The total amount available for distribution is £60,000. Please apply for no more than you need for your project so that we can support as many proposals as possible. Projects will be implemented during 2025 and must be completed by the end of the year.

We are keen to encourage new projects as well as to support existing ones, and applications for smaller projects will be treated as seriously as larger ones.

The Deadline for Submissions is 11 p.m. on Monday 21 October 2024. Decisions will be made by a panel drawn from the local area and their decision will be final. The aim will be to decide and communicate which projects have been accepted, within 4-5 weeks of that date.

For full details and to apply, please go to: www.sowneighbours.org/grants . There you can see a map of the area covered and click through to the application form.

If you know of others who might be interested in this opportunity, please do pass this announcement on. And if you have any questions, please contact ccgrants@sowneighbours.org.

You're warmly invited to SoWN's AGM. It will be on Thursday 12th September at 6pm at the Park Plaza Riverbank, 18 Albert Embankment by kind invitation of Suat Binkaya, General Manager.

This will be our fourth AGM since the Neighbourhood Plan was formally approved in December 2019.

It will be a short AGM, following a meeting of SoWN’s Steering Group, for the election of Trustees. The Trustees have oversight of SoWN, making sure that we meet our constitutional responsibilities. They work closely with the Steering Group which directs SoWN’s work.

We will also take any questions on our work. The meeting will be followed by refreshments.

SoWN has had a busy year with a strong focus on our environmental work, the Health and Wellbeing Grants and the new Neighbourhood Community Investment Levy funding stream. The Trustees' Annual Report is here. The Steering Group is working on a more detailed report which will be launched at a future Forum.

Voting for election of trustees must be in-person or by proxy.

It is important to have a diverse and representative group of trustees from across the area, and with a balance of residents and businesses. If you are interested and willing to serve as a trustee, please register your interest by emailing the Secretary, David Clarson, at mail@sowneighbours.orgCurrent Trustees are Suat Binkaya (business representative), David Clarson (resident), Giles Goddard (resident), Michael Johnson (resident/business), Carmelita Lee and Max Weiner (residents). As one third of the Trustees must resign each year Carmelita Lee and Max Weiner are resigning as Trustees and offer themselves for re-election for a second three year term.

If, as a member of SoWN, you wish to raise a particular issue or propose a motion for the AGM, please email the Secretary, David Clarson, at mail@sowneighbours.org, by Wednesday 4th September 2024

If you are unable to attend, you may nominate another member to vote on your behalf on any matter by completing and returning the Proxy Voting Form here.

The next South Bank and Waterloo Forum is on Thursday 3rd October at 7pm. We will be at the Garden Museum, by Lambeth Palace. Thanks to Christopher Woodward, Director, for this invitation.
